Argument Essay Vocab 1.5

QuestionAnswer
Setting The time and place in which a story happens
Characterization Direct or indirect descriptions of a character's personality traits
Conflict Struggle between two or more opposing forces; person vs. person; nature; society; self; fate/God
Mood The emotional atmosphere created by a piece of writing, impacts how the reader feels
Juxtaposition The placement of two or more elements side by side to highlight their differences or similarities
Symbolism Use of symbols to represent ideas or concepts
Imagery Descriptive language that appeals to the senses, creating vivid mental pictures for the reader
Point of view The perspective from which the story is told (first, second, third)
