| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Compound | two or more different atoms chemically bonded together |
| physical property | Object is the same, has the ability to include color, hardness, malleability, solubility, electrical conductivity, density, melting points, and boiling points |
| Chemical property | object is now different, can be observed and measured only by performing a chemical change or chemical reaction. |
| molecules | two atoms that are the same or different are chemically bonded together |
| Group | vertical columns of elements on the periodic table |
| Period | horizontal row of elements in the periodic table |
| Element Family | 9 families that are similar with valance electrons, similar bonds and chemical reactions, in the same group |
| Valance Electron | number of electrons in the outermost energy level |
| electrostatic force | non contact force, the force is exerted by a charged body on another charged or uncharged body |
| electronegativity | the degree to which an element tends to gain electrons and form negative ions in chemical reactions. |
