What is magnetic force? A force that can attract or repel objects at a distance.
What happens when like magnetic poles are near each other? They repel.
What happens when opposite magnetic poles are near each other? They attract.
What is a magnetic field? The space around a magnet where magnetic forces act.
What do magnetic field lines show? The direction and strength of the magnetic field.
How does distance affect magnetic force? Magnetic force is stronger when objects are closer together.
What is potential energy? Energy stored in an object or system.
What is kinetic energy? Energy and object has when it is moving.
What happens to energy when a magnet moves against a magnetic force? Energy is stored as potential energy in the magnetic field.
What is an electromagnet? A magnet whose magnetic field is produced by an electric current.
What happens to stored magnetic potential energy when a magnet is released? It is converted into kinetic energy.
How can you tell where a magnetic field is strongest? Where the magnetic field lines are closest together.
What happens to an electromagnet when the electric current is turned off? The magnetic field disappears.
What does it mean to transfer energy? To move energy from one object or system to another.
What is a system? A group of interacting parts that form a whole.
Repel means... To push objects away from each other.
Attract means... To pull objects toward each other.
