Poetic techniques.

| Simile | Comparing something to what it is not in order To describe it using like or as. |
| Juxtaposition | Placing two words/two ideas together for effect. |
| Alliteration | The repetition of initial sounds in words within a line or verse of poetry “Chess causes him confusion” |
| Assonance. | Repetition of the same vowel sound in a line of poetry. “She lived in the hills” |
| Onomatopoeia. | Use of words which suggest their meaning when pronounced. |
| Stanza | A group of lines which form division in a poem. |
