QuestionAnswer
Textual Evidence Using an exact quote from the reading to back up your answer.
Protagonist The main character who is trying to reach a goal.
Antagonist The person or thing trying to stop the protagonist from reaching their goal
Figurative language A different way of expressing yourself. Similes, metaphors, hyperboles, personification, etc.-- all of these poetry terms– are forms of figurative language.
Sequencing Putting things in order.
Theme The underlying message of a text. The message that the author wants to tell you about life.
Irony Something that happens that you don’t expect.
Main Idea A statement that sums up the text.
Setting The time and place of a story.
Symbol An object that stands for itself and something more.
Infer Using context clues to make an educated guess about the text. (Basically, it’s another word meaning ‘to predict.’
Internal Conflict A conflict within a character, usually when their brain is battling their heart.
Ethos Relating to the credibility of the speaker
Pathos Relating to the appeal of emotion.
Logos Relates to logical reasoning.
Kairos Relates to a sense of timing.
