Concepts of state is a sovereignty. Define. The ultimate authority in the decision making process of the state and in the maintenance of order. Example- Canada has the ultimate control or authority over its borders and manage its economy without outside interference -sovereignty
Nation group of people with a shared culture, language, history, and self determination. ex-The Kurdish people: This nation lives in a region Kurdistan, which is spread across parts of Iraq, Syria, Turkey, and Iran. They share a common language and culture
self determination. The right or desire for a nation or group of people to govern themselves ex- decolonization movements post WWII.
nation state sovereign state with a relatively homogeneous population that has a shared language, culture, and history citizens share ex- Japan and Portugal because the population is largely ethnically and culturally homogenous.
multinational state state that has more than one nation within its borders x- UK, Canada, and russia bc they share more than one culture.
multi state nation nation that has a state of its own, but also resides in other states meaning the cultural identity is present in multiple states ex- Kurdish population spreads over turkey, Iran, Iraq, seria, and parts of Armenia.
stateless nation has a history of self determination but does not have recognized state -lacks control over political boundaries, control over its internal and external affairs, recognition from other states. e-Palestinians, a people without a fully recognized sov stat
supranational organization organization of three or more states with common goals
United Nations Countries work together to maintain peace, security, and rights UNDP- economic cooperation- helps states in crisis
European Union Countries that share laws, trade rules, and policies. Schengen Agreement - eliminates border controls between members states to build political cooperation between states focuses on collective defense on the entire region
African union work together on piece devolopment African continental free trade area - removes tariffs to boost trade within Africa
