| Term | Definition |

| Threat | an event or person that provides unauthorized access, destruction, or denial of service to a computer system. |
| Vulnerability | a flaw or weakness in a computer system |
| Phishing | sending emails or other messages with the intention of tricking you into giving away your personal information. |
| firewall | a network security device that monitors and filters incoming and outgoing network traffic based on established security policies. |
| Virus | malware that spreads through human activities. |
| Malware | malicious software: any unwanted software on a computer that runs without asking and makes changes without asking. |
| Spoofing | tries to get users to trust the message and click on unsolicited links to gain access to their personal information |
| assessment | the process of identifying risks, threats, and vulnerabilities within a system. |
| worm | malware that spreads on its own, especially through a network. |
| antivirus | sometimes called anti-malware, it is a program used to prevent, detect, and remove malicious software |
| account | a digital identity (for users or systems) with credentials (like username/password) that grants specific permission to access resources, data, or function on a system or network. |
| password | a secret string of characters (letter, numbers, symbols) used as digital key to authenticate a user's identity. |
| authentication | a method for identifying users |
| password authentication | a process that confirms that you know the correct information to use an account or device. |
| password manager | an online application that safely stores your passwords and can be accessed through one password |
