TermDefinition
Threat an event or person that provides unauthorized access, destruction, or denial of service to a computer system.
Vulnerability a flaw or weakness in a computer system
Phishing sending emails or other messages with the intention of tricking you into giving away your personal information.
firewall a network security device that monitors and filters incoming and outgoing network traffic based on established security policies.
Virus malware that spreads through human activities.
Malware malicious software: any unwanted software on a computer that runs without asking and makes changes without asking.
Spoofing tries to get users to trust the message and click on unsolicited links to gain access to their personal information
assessment the process of identifying risks, threats, and vulnerabilities within a system.
worm malware that spreads on its own, especially through a network.
antivirus sometimes called anti-malware, it is a program used to prevent, detect, and remove malicious software
account a digital identity (for users or systems) with credentials (like username/password) that grants specific permission to access resources, data, or function on a system or network.
password a secret string of characters (letter, numbers, symbols) used as digital key to authenticate a user's identity.
authentication a method for identifying users
password authentication a process that confirms that you know the correct information to use an account or device.
password manager an online application that safely stores your passwords and can be accessed through one password
