What was the Columbian Exchange? The age of exploration in 1492 which fueled mercantilism.
What was exchanged during the Columbian exchange? Exchanged plants, animals, technology, and people
Where was Christopher Columbus from? He was born in Portugal
What were some of the negative repercussions of this time period? Spread of diseases that the Indians had no immunity from; violence, forced conversion towards Christianity; slaughtered natives (95% of Indians died); cultures were dismantled
What types of technology was used? Astrolabe (compass) and caravel (type of ship).
What did the Europeans bring to the US? Cattle (horses, cows), crops/ plants, guns and iron tools.
What motivated Spain to begin the Columbian Exchange? Demand for Asian spices, new trade routes, dramatic financial expansions, charter companies could make more money.
Name American crops. Corn, Potatoes, Tomatoes, Cash Crops (cotton)
