| Associative | The way in which numbers are when added or multiplied does not change the answer. |
| Commutative | The order in which numbers are added or multiplied does not change the answer. |
| Multiplicative | Multiplying any number and its inverse (reciprocal) equals one. |
| Additive | Adding a number and its opposite will produce a sum of zero. |
| Coefficient | The number part of a term with variables. |
| Constant | A term without a variable;numbers. |
| Like Terms | Two or more terms with the same variable or exponent. |
| Variable | A letter that represents an unknown value (varies); can use any letter. |
| Term | A single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together they are usually separated by addition and subtraction signs. |
| Algebraic Expression | Has at least one variable and one operation. |
| Term | Either a single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together. |
| Sum | The answer to an addition problem. |

| Identity Property Of Addition | The sum of an addend and zero is the same as the addend. |
| Identity Property Of Multiplication | The product of any factor and one is the same as the factor. |
| Associative | (x+7)+9=x+(7+9) |
| Associative | 4(3 x 9)= (4 x 3) x 9 |
| Commutative | (x + 7) + 9 = 9 + (7 +x) |
