State a nation or territory considered as an organized political community under one government.
Nation a country considered as a body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular area or territory.
Regime a set of rules created by those in power that the citizens uphold
Government a group of people that make laws and run a place, also decides punishment and the justice system.
Illiberal Democracy A democracy that holds elections but lacks civil liberties and a strong rule of law.
Bureaucracy A system of government where the state officials make the more important decisions than state representatives
Suffrage voting rights
Republic A state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives.
Dictatorship A person with absolute power and control.
Theocracy a government ruled by religious leaders.
Civil Liberties Individual rights protected by law from unjust government interference.
Judicial Autonomy A court's ability to make decisions/ laws without the public's political influence
Revolution The overthrowing of a government in order to make room for a new one.
Globalization how organizations/ businesses get worldwide recognition and influence.
Colonialism Stealing of land justified by religion, power and wealth.
Imperialism a country getting more power through diplomacy and their military
Neocolonialism pressuring other countries to get more control
Sovereignty the authority of a state to govern itself or another state.
Supranational Organization An international organization where member states give up some of their power to the organization
Ideology a system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy.
Legitimacy The popular acceptance of a government’s right to rule
Power a form of control given or earned by an individual or a group
Bureaucracy a system of government in which most of the important decisions are made by state officials rather than by elected representatives.
Development the process of developing or being developed.
Social Welfare A system that provides aid to those in poverty
Socialism the state or other place owning production, instead of private ownership, to try and more evenly distribute products and have them be more available for everyone
Coup D'etat people unlawfully and violently overthrowing the government
Underdeveloped not developed fully
First World countries that have higher economy levels than others, capitalist
Third World countries that are not as developed as others
