| Term | Definition |

| Commutative property | The order in which numbers are added or multiplied does not change the answer |
| Associative property | the way in which numbers are grouped ( ) when added or multiplied does not change the answer |
| identity property of multiplication | the product of any factor and 1 is the same as the factor |
| Identity property of addition | the sum of an addend and 0 is the same as the addend |
| Additive inverse property | adding a number and its opposite will produce a sum of zero |
| multiplicative inverse property | multiplying any number and it's inverse (reciprocal) equals 1 |
| factor | a number that, when multiplied by another ,produces a given number (the product) |
| Associative Property | (x + 7) + 9 = x + (7 + 9) |
