Unit 6 Vocabulary

Sun, Earth, & Moon System

QuestionAnswer
Apparent Motion perceived movement of the Sun or Moon from Earth
Axis Invisible line through Earth from the North Pole to the South Pole
Day / Night Cycle Regular pattern of changes between daylight (day) and darkness (dark).
Rotate Spinning of Earth on its axis
Shadow A dark area formed when light is blocked by an object.
Sunrise The time when the Sun appears to come up in the east as Earth rotates.
Sunset The time when the Sun appears to go down in the west as Earth continues to rotate.
Day The time when a part of Earth is facing the Sun and receives sunlight.
Night The time when a part of Earth is turned away from the Sun and does not receive sunlight.
Cycle A series of events that happens in the same order over and over again.
