DIT Hardware

BTEC DIT Hardware Terms

TermDefinition
The physical parts of a computer system. Hardware
The main part of the computer that processes data and instructions. CPU (Central Processing Unit)
Temporary memory that stores data and programs currently in use. RAM (Random Access Memory)
Hardware used to save data permanently, such as a hard drive or USB stick. Storage Device
Hardware used to enter data into a computer (e.g. keyboard, mouse, scanner). Input Device
Hardware that shows results from a computer (e.g. monitor, printer, speakers). Output Device
An external device connected to a computer, such as a printer or webcam. Peripheral
