Ice Wedging a type of weathering that occurs when water soaks into a material, freezes, expands, and causes the material to split or break apart.
Deposition the dropping off of eroded soil and bits of rock
Soil Erosion the process by which soil is worn away by wind or rain
Sediment the particles of soil or rock that have been eroded and deposited
Erosion the movement of weathered material from one place to another
Weathering the slow process that breaks materials into smaller pieces.
Glacier a large sheet of ice that moves slowly across the land
Coal a black or brown rock that is found in the earth and burned as fuel
Natural Gas a mixture of gases found below Earth's surface that is used as fuel
Natural Resource something that people use from nature
Nonrenewable cannot be replaced by nature easily or quickly
Oil a liquid that is found beneath Earth's surface that is used to form fuels and to make a variety of other products
Renewable can be replaced by nature easily or quickly
Aquifer a layer of rock that is permeable to water
Impermeable does not allow liquid or gas to pass through it
Permeable allows liquid or gas to pass through it
Porous to have many small spaces or holes
Soot a black powdery substance that is created when something like wood or paper doesn't burn completely
Replenish to refill or restore a natural resource, like water or trees, so that it can be used again
Restore return something to its original state
Hollow having an empty space, or only air inside it
Panel a device that converts sunlight into electricity
Generate to cause something to exist or produce energy
Formation a structure or arrangement of something
