Rocky Mountains The major mountain range in western North America.
Glacier A huge, slow-moving mass of snow and ice.
Tundra A cold, dry region covered with snow for more than half the year.
Permafrost A permanently frozen layer of ground below the top layer of soil
Prairie A region of flat or rolling land covered with grasses
Province A political division of land in Canada
Alluvial Soil Fertile topsoil left by a river, especially after a flood.
Agribusiness A large company that runs huge farms.
Hydroelectricity Electric power produced by moving water
Fossil Fuel A fuel formed over millions of years from animal and plant remains.
Great Lakes The world's largest group of freshwater lakes
Tributary A river or stream that flows into a larger river
