decision skills help you make successful, responsible choices.
values are ideas, beliefs, attitudes about what is important
Step 1 of the decision making process state the situation (what is the problem)
Step 2 of the decision making process list the options (come up with your options)
Step 3 of the decision making process weigh the possible outcomes (think of how those decisions would affect everything)
Step 4 of the decision making process consider values ( what you value is important in this situation)
Step 5 of the decision making process make a decision and act on it ( you do it)
Step 6 of the decision making process evaluate the decision (did you do the right thing?)
Step 1 of the HELP process H.... healthful. does this situation affect my health?
Step 2 of the HELP process E.... Ethical. does this choice reflect what you value?
Step 3 of the HELP process L.... Legal. is this choice legal?
Step 4 of the HELP process P.... Parents. would your parents approve of this choice?
impersonal conflicts: between people and groups of people. this often arises when one group's beliefs clash with the other's.
internal conflicts conflict inside, a person being pulled in different directions
Power struggles example a teen might have a dispute over if they are allowed out at night.
personal loyalties example a teen might be angry at a friend for taking another side in an argument.
jeoulousy and envy example a teen might be angry because their friend is going out with somebody THEY like.
property disputes example a teen might be angry at a sibling for borrowing something without asking.
conflicting attitudes and values example friends might have an argument about who to hang out with.
lack of respect example a teen might be rude to a person from a different race, color, or culture.

conflict resolution def the process of ending a conflict through cooperation and problem solving.
negotiation def a strategic discussion that ends with a result that both parties find acceptable.

alcahol and drug use: what are the dangers? - engage in more risky behaviour - low self esteem - more violent crimes
cyberbullying the repeated use of digital harm or digital mean-spirited comments towards somebody.
cyberbullying: saying if you would not say it in real life, don't say it online.
online safety skills 1. protect yourself (use strong passwords) 2. if you're being cyberbullied, don't stay quiet about it. 3 if you're a bystander, either solve the conflict or don't make it worse.
mental health def how we think, feel and cope with life.
suicidal thoughts def thoughts about wanting to stop living or disappear.
risk factors def things that increase struggle
protective factors def things that help and keep safe.
trusted adult def somebody who is over the age of 18 and you feel comfortable talking to them.
possible warning signs (ie suicide) - feeling hopeless - strong mood changes - saying things like "nobody will miss me"
suicide prevention strong factors that lessen a chance of suicide
