| Greenhouse Effect | Trapping of heat near a planet's surface by certain gases in the planet's atmosphere |
| Thermal energy | Total energy of motion in the particles of a substance, potential and kinetic energy of particles |
| Convection | Transfer of heat by the movement through a fluid, gas or liquid |
| Conduction | Transfer of heat between two substances that are in direct contact. |
| Radiation | Transfer of heat by electromagnetic waves -- sun light and heat moves through empty space |
