Electromagnetic Wave The Sun's energy that travels to Earth as this electromagnetic radiation, This can move through a vacuum of space.
Greenhouse Effect Trapping of heat near a planet's surface by certain gases in the planet's atmosphere
Thermal energy Total energy of motion in the particles of a substance, potential and kinetic energy of particles
Convection Transfer of heat by the movement through a fluid, gas or liquid
Conduction Transfer of heat between two substances that are in direct contact.
Radiation Transfer of heat by electromagnetic waves -- sun light and heat moves through empty space
absorb light or sound energy incorporation into the bulk of the material rather than just sticking to the surface
Visible light Light that you see from the sun
Wavelength Distance between wave peaks
Ultraviolet Radiation Invisible rays that come from the sun. Made up of two types of rays, called UVA and UVB. People use sunscreens that protect the skin.
