Grade 10 Biology plant groups

TermDefinition
Bryophyta are nonvascular plants called mosses. They are pioneer plants, have multicellular rhizoids, and absorb water by diffusion.
Hepaticophyta are nonvascular plants called liverworts. They grow in moist, shady environments and have unicellular rhizoids.
Anthocerophyta are nonvascular plants called hornworts. They are the smallest division, have horn-like sporophytes, and each cell has a large chloroplast.
Lycophyta Lycophyta are seedless vascular plants called club mosses. They have roots, stems, small leaves, and reproduce by spores.
Pterophyta Pterophyta are seedless vascular plants called ferns. They have vascular tissue and produce spores in clusters on the underside of their leaves.
Cycadophyta Cycadophyta are gymnosperm seed plants with soft stems. Male and female plants grow on different trees.
Ginkgophyta Ginkgophyta are gymnosperm seed plants with fan-shaped leaves. Male and female plants are separate, and the seeds have a foul smell.
Coniferophyta Coniferophyta are gymnosperm seed plants called conifers. They have cones, needle-like leaves covered with cutin, and are evergreen.
Anthophyta Anthophyta are flowering plants and are the most widely distributed plants. They produce flowers, fruits, and seeds and live on land and in water.
