Food Chains-What’s for lunch?
| Term | Definition |

| food chain | This describes the order in which organisms, or living things, depend on each other for food. |
| producers | Organisms that make their own food, often these are plants. Producers start the food chain. |
| consumers | Organisms that eat other living things. |
| predator | An animal that hunts, catches and eats other animals. (hunter) |
| prey | The animals that the predator hunts. (runner) |
| food web | A group of food chains within an ecosystem. |
| herbivores | Plant eaters are herbivores. |
| carnivores | Meat eaters are carnivores. |
| omnivores | Animals that eat both plants and animals are omnivores. |
| population | One specific type of species living within a community. |
| community | Several populations of living things sharing the same habitat together. |
| niche | The role, or job that a species, or living thing has in a community. |
