Food Chains-What’s for lunch?

TermDefinition
food chain This describes the order in which organisms, or living things, depend on each other for food.
producers Organisms that make their own food, often these are plants. Producers start the food chain.
consumers Organisms that eat other living things.
predator An animal that hunts, catches and eats other animals. (hunter)
prey The animals that the predator hunts. (runner)
food web A group of food chains within an ecosystem.
herbivores Plant eaters are herbivores.
carnivores Meat eaters are carnivores.
omnivores Animals that eat both plants and animals are omnivores.
population One specific type of species living within a community.
community Several populations of living things sharing the same habitat together.
niche The role, or job that a species, or living thing has in a community.
