| First Amendment | a rule that protects five big freedoms for everyone in the U.S.: religion, speech, the press, peaceful assembly, and petitioning the government |
| executive branch | carries out and enforces laws |
| guarantee | to promise that a particular thing will happen |
| judicial branch | interprets and applies the laws |
| legislative branch | makes and passes laws |
| Ohio Constitution | plan for the state government of Ohio |
| representative | a person chosen to speak or make decisions for another person or group of people |
| rights | freedoms that are protected by law |
| U.S. Constitution | a written plan for the United States government |
| voting | how people exercise or use their power |
