The cell

QuestionAnswer
What are living things called? Living things are called organisms.
What characters must organisms have? To be considered a living thing, organisms must have the following characteristics: Movement, response, nutrition, respiration, growth, excretion, reproduction.
What is a unicellular organism? A unicellular organism, is composed of only a single cell e,g bacteria.
What are multicellular organisms? Multicellular organisms are organisms that are made of more than one cell e.g plants and animals.
What are cells? Cells are the basic units of life, all living things are made up of cells.
What do cells do? Cells work together to support different functions in a living organism.
What forms a tissue? A group of cells working together form a tissue,e.g bicep muscle tissues are a group of cells that work together to move your forearm up.
What is tissue? The lining of lungs, intestines, skin, and muscles are all examples of tissue,
What forms a organ? Tissues work together to form a organ
What is a organ? Our lungs, heart, brain, and stomach are all organs.
What forms a system? Different organs working together forms a system,e.g disgestive system.
What makes up a living organism? All of our systems working together make up a living organism.
What are specialised cells? Specialised cells are cells that have adapted to carry out specific functions.
What is the mitochondria The mitochondria is where energy is released from food through a process called respiration
What is the nucleus The nucleus carries genetic information (DNA) and controls what happens inside the cdll
What is the Cytoplasm? The cytoplasm is a jelly like substance where all the chemical reactions happen.
What is the cell membrane? The cell membrane controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell.
What is the vacuole/large vacuole? The vacuole contains a liquid called cell sap that stores food and keeps the cell firm, animal cells also contain vacuoles but they are very small.
What is the chloroplast? The chloroplast is where the plant makes food using a process called photosynthesis.chloroplasts contains a green pigment called chlorophyll.
What is the cell wall? The cell wall protects and supports the cell,it is made of a tough substance called cellulose.
What does a light microscope do? A light microscope used a series of lenses to produce a magnified image of a object.
What is the slide? The slide sits on the stage and is held in place by stage clips,
What does the light source do? Light from the light source shines through the object
What is the eyepiece lens? The eyepiece lens’s is closest to your eye,it magnifies the image.
How are images found and focused? Images are found using the coarse adjustment knob and focused using the fine adjustment knob
Explain objective lens. Each objective lens has a different magnification, these sit on a rotating nosepiece so that different lenses can be chosen.
What are stains and dyes used for? Stains and dyes are used to enhance contrast in microscopic images, stains highlight features and make them easier to see.
What does the eyepiece lens and objective lens do? Both of them magnify objects.
How do you calculate the total magnification? Multiply the magnification of the eyepiece by the magnification of the objective lens .
Where is the magnification found? It is found on each lens,it is a number follows by x such as 10x
