QuestionAnswer
Philosophy (Definition) The study of fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, values, reason, and reality.
Philosophical Question (Definition) A question that explores meaning, truth, or value beyond practical or scientific concerns.
Ordinary Reflection Thinking based on personal experience, often uncritical and habitual.
Philosophical Reflection Critical, systematic thinking that questions assumptions and seeks deeper understanding.
Why Study Philosophy? To develop critical thinking, broaden perspective, and understand human values and reasoning.
Branches of Philosophy (List) Metaphysics, Epistemology, Ethics, Logic, Aesthetics.
Metaphysics (Definition) The branch of philosophy that studies existence, reality, and the nature of being.
Epistemology (Definition) The study of knowledge—its nature, sources, limits, and validity.
Ethics (Definition) The branch of philosophy concerned with moral principles and right conduct.
Logic (Definition) The study of correct reasoning and argument structure.
Aesthetics (Definition) The philosophical study of beauty, art, and taste.
Philosophy vs Science Philosophy asks foundational questions; science seeks empirical answers through observation and testing.
Philosophy vs Religion Philosophy relies on reason and argument; religion often relies on faith and revelation.
Philosophy and Critical Thinking Philosophy trains the mind to analyze, evaluate, and construct logical arguments.
Philosophy and Human Person Philosophy helps us understand human nature, freedom, and personal identity.
