Science vocab for lesson 2

TermDefinition
Niche A small thing that an organism is into, whether it is the food it eats or the habitat it lives in.
Tolerance The ability to survive and withstand changing conditions
Resource Partitioning When organisms stick to their niche and evolve to focus on that niche alone.
Predation When an organism hunts another for food.
Coevolution When two species evolve in response to one another.
Parasitism When one organisms depend on another for nutrients
Symbiosis A long and physically close relationship where only one organism benefits in the end.
Herbivory When an organism feeds off of a plant.
Mutualism A relationship where both organisms involved benefit
Commensalism A relationship where one organism benefits.
