Science vocab for lesson 1

TermDefinition
Evolution The growth and change of an organism over time.
Gene A sequence of DNA that codes for a particular trait.
Mutation Changes in DNA.
Genetic Drift A change that occurs by chance.
Natural Selection When traits that improve an organisms chances for survival, Naturally.
Fitness How healthy an organism is.
Adaption When an organism changes and grows to fit an environment.
Artificial Selection When an outside force changes something within an animal instead of nature.
Speciation The process when new species are generated.
Extinction When a species is killed off in mass.
