Explain the term history . History is the study of the past,it comes from the Greek word historia which means knowledge from investigation.
Explain the term prehistory. We use the word prehistory to speak about the period of time before writing was used,
Explain the term source. A source is something that gives us information or evidence about a person,place,or thing in the past.

Explain the term archaeology Archaeology is the study of the remains left by people in the past.
List three reasons why we study history. To learn to recognise patterns of change. To gain an understanding of the causes and effects of past events Understand how human experience has shaped our world today.
Explain the term historical consciousness Historical consciousness means being able to place ourselves in past human experience linking the past,the present,and the future.
Explain the term historian A historian is someone who is an expert in,or a student of history,historians gather evidence from a variety of sources to piece together information about the past.
Explain the term archeologist. A archeologist is someone who investigates places and objects left by people in the past,including the time before written records were kept.
Name two groups of people who study history. Archaeologists,historians,
What is cross checking? Cross checking is when more than one source is used to make sure the information is correct.
What is a historical repository? A place where evidence of the past can be stored and maintained e.g artefacts,manuscripts.
What is a Archive? A place that catalogues and stores a collection of written and other sources,e.g national archives of Ireland in Dublin. here the records of Irish state are held.
What is a museum? A museum is a place that collects and displays objects for public education and appreciation,e.g national museum in Dublin where you can see Viking artefacts and treasures from ancient Egypt.
What is a primary source? A primary source is a source from the time in question; a first hand account of what happened.
What is a secondary source? A secondary source is a source from a later date,after the time in question.
What is a biography? A biography is an account of a persons life written by someone else
What is a auto biography? A autobiography is a account of a persons life written by the person themselves.
What is a handling box? A handling box is a box containing replicas of artefacts so that anyone can examine them without damaging the original.
What is a artefact? A artefacts is any human made object e.g pottery, a tool or a weapon such as spear.
What is a census? A census is a official survey of a population
List three examples of primary sources Autobiographies,diaries,photographs.
List three examples of secondary sources Biographies,movies,podcasts.

What is accuracy? Accuracy involves judging how correct the information you are using is.
What is bias? Bias is when an account is not balanced,but unfairly favours one side,
What is exaggeration? When something is represented as better or worse than it actually was.
What is propaganda? Information that has been designed to influence the attitudes and behaviours of the general public,it is common during war time e.g to convince public that war is justified.
What is a tactile source? A source that can be touched,physical object e.g artefact
What is chronology? Chronology is putting events into the sequence in which they happened.
What is time divided into? Hours,days,weeks,months,years.
What do you group years into? Group years into decades(10 years), centuries (100 years), and millennia (1000 years)
How do you organise events? Organise events using a common feature from a period of history e.g the era where tools weee made from stone is called Stone Age.
What are timelines used for? Use timelines to show the order in which events happened.
What is BC/BCE? Any date before the birth of Jesus is BC or BCE,e.g the first Olympic Games took place in 776 BC-776 years before Jesus was born. BC starts backwards so the year starts at 799BC and ends at 700BC,
What is CE/AD? We can any date since/after the birth of Jesus CE/AD e.g the year AD 2003 was 2003 years after the birth of Jesus
