Victory Gardens Supported the American war effort by having citizens grow small family gardens to save vital food supplies for shipping to soldiers overseas.
War bonds Citizens purchased these in times of war to help provide the government with money for military operations
Overproduction Making more of a product than can be sold; causes the price of the product to decrease
drought A long period of little rainfall; causes farmers to grow less crops and make less money
boll weevil A destructive insect that laid its eggs in cotton plants; caused Georgia's cotton crop to drop and farmers to lose money
Great Depression An event caused by overproduction of agricultural products, failure of banks, and an unstable economy
Eugene Talmadge Governor of georgia who opposed the agricultural adjustment act, franklin d. roosevelt , and the new deal
Franklin D. Roosevelt President of the united states who created the new deal and visited warm springs, Georgia many times because the warm waters helped relieve the effects of his polio
New Deal Programs and projects developed by franklin d. Roosevelt to help the economy and provide citizens with jobs and electricity
Rural Electrification Act (REA) Provided electricity to homes outside of populated cities; developed because of franklin d. Roosevelt’s visits to warm springs, Georgia.
Civil Conservation Corps A public work relief program that was created by the new dea and designed to provide unemployed men with jobs during the great depression.
Social Security Administration (SSA) A public work relief program that was created by the new deal and designed to provide unemployed men with jobs during the great depression.
Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) A program of the new deal that created insurance for the elderly, unemployed, and disabled people through contributions by employees and employers.
