PE -Physical demands of performance

| Well-being | the elements of an individuals mental and social wellbeing in relation to their feeling of fulfilment |
| Fitness | ability of an individual to carry out everyday activities without becoming overly lethargic |
| Health related components of fitness | the components required for an individual to maintain optimal physical health and wellbeing - muscular endurance - muscular strength - cardiovascular endurance - body composition - Flexibility |
| Performance related components of fitness | components required for an athlete to maximise their performance - speed - agility - power - co ordination - balance - reaction time |
| Cardiorespiratory fitness | ability to deliver oxygen and nutrience to the muscles over a sustained period of time |
| Muscular endurance | ability of a muscle or group of muscles to generate force repeatedly without fatigue |
| Muscular strength | amount of force a muscle can generate in one singular maximal effort |
| Flexibility | is the range of motion about a joint |
| Body composition | the percentage of body weight which is fat, muscle or bone. |
| Ectomorph | have long and lean shapes lower body fat percentages fast metabolisms lower muscle density difficulty gaining muscle good for -high jumping -long distance running -cycling |
| Mesomorph | inverted triangular shapes broad shoulders moderate body fat high muscular density gains muscle easily moderate metabolism good for -sprinters -swimming -rugby backs |
| Endomorph | apple shaped body short in height high body fat percentage lower muscular density gains fat and muscle easily slow metabolism good for -rugby prop/forward -sumo wrestling -throwers In athletics |
| Agility | the ability to change your direction and speed and which you're travelling quickly and efficiently |
| Balance | the ability to maintain equilibrium when stationary and moving |
| Co-ordination | the ability of two or more body parts to move in a controlled, smooth and efficient way |
| Power | the ability to exert a maximal amount of force in a short a time as possible |
| Reaction time | how efficiently the brain can initiate a response to a stimulus |
| Speed | how fast the body can move in relation to time |
| Needs analysis | the process of determining what qualities a performer and it sport requires. |
| Fitness battery testing and factors affecting | a series of tests designed to assess the physiological demands of a sport or physical activity helping to optimise an athletes performance |
| Factors affecting a fitness test battery | specificity- does the test you're using match valid- is the test accurately measured reliable- are the measurements trustworthy and consistent standardisation- keep test protocol/a constant environment health/safety- health, hydration, safety of ath |
