exponent a small number written up and to the right of the base that shows how many times to multiply the base by itself
exponential notation writing a number multiplied by itself many times
power a shorthand way to show repeated multiplication
cubed a number raised to the thrid power
algebraic expression an expression that includes unknown values written as variables
numerical expression a combination of numbers, parentheses and operations signs which evaluates to a number
equivalent expression evaluate to the same number for every possible value of the variable
variable a symbol that represents a number
term a number, variable, or product of numbers and variables in an expression
equation a mathematical statement that two expressions are equal
boundary point represented by an open circle to show numbers less or greater than the boundary number
boundary number numbers greater that or equal to in an inequality
additve identity and number added to 0 is itself
multiplicative inverse a number multiplied by its reciprocal is always 1
linear pair two angles that sit next to each other and share a common vertex and side
independent variable its value does not depend on the value of another variable
dependent variable its value depends on the value of an independent variable
coefficient the number that multiplies the variable
solution a variable that makes a number sentence true
