how did katniss help her family survive ? katniss would have her name be put in the bowl more times to get a tessera which could be used to get extra grain and oil.
What is the significance of the dandelions to Katniss? the dandelions symbolize hope and survival, reminding katniss her family wont starve and life would continue.
What is a black market and how does it fit into the novel? A black market is a place where illegal goods are traded or sold. this fits into the novel because of the Hob, which is a place katniss would trade food
Why did the games start? What purpose do they serve? the games started after the districts rebelled after the capitol. they serve as punishment and a reminder of the capitols power and control.
Who started the games? the capitol started the hunger games
Why do they move the location of the games each year? they change the arena to confuse the tributes, keep the games entertaining, and prevent anyone from having an advantage.
What is Peeta’s strategy for sponsors? peetas strategy for sponsors is to be likeable and emotional, making the star crossed lovers trope a thing.
What advice does Haymitch give Katniss? (beyond “stay alive!”) Haymitch gives the advice that other than stay alive you need to not be tempted by the weapons in the cornucopia but run and distance yourself as much as you can from the others and find a water source.
What are some ways that Gamemakers manipulate the tributes? (at least 2) they control the environment, create fires and fireballs, and force tributes together to increase conflict and drama.
Why do the Gamemakers manipulate the tributes? they do this to make the games more entertaining and maintain some control of the outcome
What is a Career Tribute? A career tribute is a trained competitor from wealthier districts who volunteers for the games and prepare their whole life for the games.
What are some Gamemaker tactics and their purpose? they use natural disasters and creatures and stuff to force action to keep viewers interested.
What has Katniss done in the games to escape Careers? she climbed trees, used camouflage, used tracker jackers, and avoided direct combat.
What does Katniss receive from sponsors? Katniss receives medication from sponsors to which she uses for her burn and her splintered flingers.
What are some examples that would make this novel Dystopian? the book has examples of a Totalarian government, district 12 has walls around it preventing people from coming in or out and into the woods, the higher the district number gets the worse the conditions are .
What are some attributes that help Katniss Everdeen so far? shes skilled with a bow, resourceful, independent, and protective of others.
How does Reality TV affect the characters? Reality tv makes the characters do stuff they wouldn't have done otherwise. If they didn't know they were being broadcasted they would be able to show more weaknesses and be more natural.
Why does the author choose to use specific words? How does that change the connotation of a passage? The author uses strong, emotional words to create tension and make events feel more serious and intense.
