Algebra Vocab

QuestionAnswer
Algebra a language of symbols, including variables
Algebraic Expressions have at least one variable and one operation Ex: a+2
Variables A letter that represents an unknown value (varies); can use any letter. Ex: 7a + 4 (a = variable
Constant A term without a variable; numbers Ex: 7a+4 (4 = constant)
Coefficients The number part of a term with variables. Ex:7a + 4 (7 = coefficients)
Term A single number or variable, o numbers and variables multiplied together. Terms are usually separated by addition and subtraction signs. Ex: 4a + 2y -3 = 3 terms
Like term Two or more terms with the same variables or exponent Ex: 7x + 8x + 10 (8x & 7x = like terms)
Sum Answer to an addition problem
Diference The answer to a subtract problem
Product Answer to a multiplication problem
Quotient Answer to division problem.
