| Variable | A letter that represents an unknown value (varies) can use any letter |
| constant | a term without a variable; numbers |
| coefficient | the number part of a term with variables |
| term | Either a single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together. Terms are usually separated by addition and subtraction signs. |
| like terms | two or more terms with the same variable or exponent are called like terms. |
| sum | the answer to a addition problem. |
| difference | the answer to a subtraction problem |
| product | the answer to a multiplication problem |
| quotient | the answer to a division problem |
