| ACTIVE VOICE | noun. The form a transitive verb takes when it expresses an action done by its subject (subject + verb + object). | The dog chased the ball. Is an example of active voice |
| CONTRIBUTE | verb.To add or to give something to help support a specific idea or reach a common purpose. | the staff who contribute to your sports pages are doing a splendid job |
| IMPLY | verb.To strongly suggest something that is not expressly stated. | nowhere in the abstract do the researchers imply a causal link |
| REINFORCE | verb.To strengthen or support an idea, usually with additional material. | The shipyard has already been asked to reinforce the stitching. |
| STANZA | noun.A group of lines in a poem, often separated by spaces (the “”paragraph”” of a poem). | The stanza continues the poem's play with the withholding of images. |
| ALLITERATION | n.When the same sound or letters appear at the beginning of words in a sentence/phrase. | Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. |

| SYMBOLISM | n.Using objects, characters, actions, events etc. (symbols) to represent or signify something more profound or abstract than its literal existence | The story was filled with religious symbolism |
| SUSPENSE | n.when the reader experiences uncertainty about how the plot will progress or what a character’s motivation is | It's odd, but it keeps you in suspense for what will happen next |
