Independent variable The variable being tested
Dependent variable The variable measured at the end; It responds to the changed independent variable.
Control group The trail/group you don't give the independent variable to so you can see if there was a change/compared to
Constant variables Everything else in the investigation that you keep the same
Predictions What you THINK will happen next
Quantitative Observations Numbers describing the event
Inferences What you think happened
Hypothesis An educated prediction written in a specific format
Qualitative Observations An educated prediction written in a specific format
Controlled Experiment An investigation where only one variable is changed at a time
Systematic Observations Observation on a schedule where you are looking for specific things
Field Study Where scientists go outside and collect sample
Repetition One person completing the same investigation over and over
Replication Different people completing the same investigation over and over
Scientific Model Diagrams, 3-D objects, computer simulation that helps us understand a science subject better. They are not perfection because they are not exact copies of the real thing
