QuestionAnswer
Proton A positively charged particle found in the nucleus.
Neutron A neutral charged particle found in the nucleus.
Electron A negatively charged particle found in the area surrounding the nucleus.
Valence Electron An electron in the outer most electron energy level.
Element A pure substance that cannot be separated into simpler substances by physical or chemical means.
Compound Pure substance composed of two or more different elements joined together with chemical bonds.
Mixture Mixture- A
Ion- An atom that gains or loses electrons.
Isotope An atom that gains or loses neutrons (an atom with a different mass number)
Physical Change A change in form or appearance (the substance does not change into a new substance).
Chemical Change A reaction that results in the production of a new substance (ex. Iron → rust
Ionic Bond A bond that forms when two or more atoms transfer electrons.
Covalent Bond A bond that forms when two or more atoms share electrons.
Synthetic Material A “man-made” product.
Natural Material A product formed from earth or space
