| Claim | the author's main point, a statement he or she believes to be true |
| Credibility | the author is able to be believed and trusted |
| Reliable Evidence | information or data that is trustworthy, accurate, and consistent |
| Argument | when the author wants to convince you of their position |
| Counterclaim | the opposing viewpoint of the author's claim |
| Rebuttal | when the author responds directly to the counterclaim |
