Gene segment of DNA that codes for a trait
Allele different versions of a gene (ex. A or a)
Trait a characteristic (hair/eye color)
Dominant allele that masks another (B)
Recessive allele that is masked (b)
Genotype genetic makeup (Aa, BB, cc)
Phenotype physical appearance (brown eyes)
Homozygous two same alleles (BB or bb)
Heterozygous two different alleles (Bb)
Carrier heterozygous for a recessive trait (has it, doesn’t show it)
Complete Dominance Dominant completely masks recessive
Incomplete Dominance heterozygous is a blend (ex. Red = R White = W Pink = RW
Codominance both alleles are expressed (ex. AB blood type)
