Argument/Claim Terms

QuestionAnswer
Ethos credibillity Emphasizes the speakers credibility and authority. Examples: Celebrity endorsements, titles, profession, ETC.
Pathos emotion Appeals to the audiences emotions. Examples: personal story, powerful image, or sad videos.
Logos reasoning Appeals to the audiences logic or reason. Examples: Data, historical events, and facts.
Claim The authors main point, a statement he or she believes to be true, must be arguable and provable
Credibility The author is able to be believed and trusted. Look for the following: The authors credentials background.:Where the article was published.
Reliable Evidence Information or data that is trustworthy, accurate, and consistent, and can be verified through reputable sources.
Rebuttal When the author responds directly to the counterclaim
Argument When the author wants to convince you of their position.
Counterclaim The opposing viewpoints of the authors claim.
