argument and claim

TermDefinition
Ethos emphasizes the speaker's credibility and authority. ex: celebrity endorsements, titles, professions, etc.
pathos appeals to the audience's emotion. ex: personal story, powerful image, or sad videos.
logos appeals the the audience's logic or reason. ex: data,historical events, facts, test results, and personal experience.
claim the author's main point a statement they believe. must be arguable and provable
credibility the author is able to be believed and trusted. ex: where was it published
counterclaim the opposite viewpoint of the authors claim
rebuttal the author provides reasons why the counterclaim is not as strong as the claim
evidence what the author uses to support their claim
argument when the author wants to convince you of their position
