argument and claim
| Term | Definition |

| Ethos | emphasizes the speaker's credibility and authority. ex: celebrity endorsements, titles, professions, etc. |
| pathos | appeals to the audience's emotion. ex: personal story, powerful image, or sad videos. |
| logos | appeals the the audience's logic or reason. ex: data,historical events, facts, test results, and personal experience. |
| claim | the author's main point a statement they believe. must be arguable and provable |
| credibility | the author is able to be believed and trusted. ex: where was it published |
| counterclaim | the opposite viewpoint of the authors claim |
| rebuttal | the author provides reasons why the counterclaim is not as strong as the claim |
| evidence | what the author uses to support their claim |
| argument | when the author wants to convince you of their position |
