Tone How the author feels about the subject they are wrting
Symbol -sign/shape/ physical object used to represent a larger idea or deeper meaning
Motif an idea an author repeats in the text to show a theme
Theme -life lesson -complete sentence
Setting -Where the story is
Point of View perspective the story is being told
1st Person I/Me/My -perspective of main character
2nd Person You/ We -perspective of main character(addressing the audience)
3rd Person Omniscient All -perspective of an unarmed narrator (details of all things)
3rd Person Limited Some -perspective of unnamed narrator -only important and necessary details
Plot sequence of events in a story
#1 Exposition -introduces character and setting -basic info
#2 Inciting Incident -initial situation -opens conflict
#3 Rising Action -complications in events to introduce conflict or intensify existing one
#4 Climate -turning point -moment of greatest intensity
#5 Falling Action -release in emotional intensity moves to resolution
#6 Resolution -main conflict is resolved -loose ends tied
#7 Conclusion closure
