algebra terms

QuestionAnswer
variable a letter that represents an unknown value. It can vary. Any letter works.
constant a term without a variable. AKA numbers
coefficient the number part of a term with a variable
term a single number or variable,or numbers and variable multiplied together. Usually separated by addition or subtraction signs.
like terms 2 or more terms with the same variable or exponent are called like terms
algebraic expression a problem with at least one variable and one problem
sum the answer to a addition problem
difference answer to a subtraction problem
product answer to a multiplication problem
quotient answer to a division problem
fewer than/less than subtract and reverse
how much more less -subtract
% of a fraction multiply
each divide
is than/ from reverse the order
associative property the way which numbers are grouped when added or multiplied does not change the answer.
commutative property the order in which numbers are multiplied or added does not change the answer.
ID property of addition any thing plus 0 keeps its identity
ID property of multiplication anything multiplied by one keeps its identity
additive inverse property adding a number and its opposite will produce a sum of 0
multiplicative inverse property multiplying any thing by its inverse equals one.
associative property (x+7)+9=x+(7+9)
associative property 4(3x9)=(4x3)9
commutative property (x+7)+9=9+(7+x)
commutative property 5x6=6x5
ID prop of addition x+0=x
ID prop of multiplication 6(1)=6
multiplicative inverse prop 4x1/4=1
additive inverse prop -5+5=0
distributive prop 4(x+3)=4x+12
distributive prop 16 + 40 =8(2+5)
