Argument+Claim Terms

QuestionAnswer
Ethos Emphasizes the speaker's credibility and authority. Ex: celebrity endorsements, titles, professions, etc.
Pathos appeals to the audience's emotions. Ex: personal story, powerful image, or sad video
Logos Appeals to the audience's logic or reason. Ex: data, historical events, facts, test results, and personal experience.
claim the author's main point, a statement he or she believes to be true, must be arguable and provable.
credibility the author is able to be believed or trusted.
reliable evidence What the author uses to support their claim.
Argument When the author wants to convince you of their position.
Evidence what the author uses to convince you of their claim.
Counterclaim the opposite viewpoint of the authors claim.
Rebuttal when the author responds directly to the counterclaim.
