argument and claim

important terms

QuestionAnswer
ethos emphasizes the speakers credibility and authorities
logos appeals to the audiences logic or reason
pathos appeals to the audiences emotions
claim the authors main point
credibility the author is able to be belivived and trusted
reliable evidence information or data that is trustworthy
argument when the author wants to convince you of their position
counterclaim the opposite viewpoint the author uses to support their claim
rebuttal when the author responds directly to the counterclaim
