Terms, NEED TO KNOW
| Question | Answer |

| Ethos | Emphasizes the speaker's credibility and authority. |
| Logos | Appeals to the audience's logic or reason. |
| Pathos | Appeals to the audience's emotions. |
| Claim | The author's main point, a statement he or she believes to be true, must be arguable and provable. |
| Credibility | The author is able to be believed and trusted. Look for the following, The author's credentials and background, Where the article was published, and the work cited and reliable evidence to support the text. |
| Reliable Evidence | Information or data that is trustworthy, accurate, consistent, and can be verified through reputable sources. |
| Rebuttal | When the author responds directly to the counterclaim. |
| Argument | When the author wants to convince you of there position. |
| Evidence | What the author uses to support their claim. |
| Counterclaim | The opposing viewpoint of the authors claim. |
