Intro to Algebra

QuestionAnswer
Variable A letter that represents an unknown value (varies), can use any letter EX: x, y, z
Constant A term without a variable, numbers. EX: 7a + 4, 9x -2
Coefficient the number part of a term with variables. EX: 7a + 4, 9x-2
term is either a single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together. Terms are usually separated by addition and subtraction signs. EX: 4 (x2) -3
like terms two or more terms with the same variable or exponent EX: 7x + 8x + 10
Algerbric expression has at least one variable and one operation EX: a+2, 5-6
Algebra A language of symbols, including variables. EX: 7a +4
Sum The answer from an addition operation
Difference The answer from a subtraction problem
Product The answer of a multiplication problem
Quotient The answer from a division operation
