| Term | Definition |

| Algebra | It is a language of symbols, including variables. |
| Algebraic Expressions | Have at least one variable and one operation ex: a + 2, 5- b, x divided by 4. |
| Variable | A letter that represents an unknown value (varies); can use any letter. Ex: 7a + 4, 9x - 2, 8+y. Ex: x, y, 2. |
| Constant | A term without a variable; numbers. Ex: 7a+ 4,9x-2,8+y. |
| Coefficient | The number part of a term with variables. Ex: 7a+4,9x-2, 8+ 1y. |
| Term | A term is either a single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together. Terms are usually separated by addition and subtraction signs. ex: 4a+2y-3. |
| Like Terms | Two or more terms with the same variable or exponent are called like terms. ex: 7x+8x+10. |
