QuestionAnswer
First Estate Church officals called the Clergy.
Second Estate Rich nobles.
Third Estate Bourgeoisie and workers and peasants (evreyone else).
Bourgeoisie Members of the Third Estate who had money (middle class of merchants, professionals, and manufactures).
Estates-General The gathering of the 3 Estates, a legislative body summoned by the monarch.
Tennis Court Oath A promise made by the Third Estate to create a constitution for France.
What were the problems that France experienced in the 1780s? High taxes, Bread shortages, High debt due to wars in Europe & King/Queen spending money.
What happened on July 14th, Bastille Day? A mob stormed a prision looking for gunpowder.
What was the tax system in France in the years preceding the French Revolution? The members of the Third Estate paid almost all of the taxes.
In what way did the Bourgeoisie differ from the other members of the Third Estate? They were fond of expensive clothing and elegant living (many were as rich as nobles but lacked the same rights).
