The Mayflower, 1620 120 pilgrims. Negotiated with the Virginia Company to settle. Plymouth bay was outside of VOC so they were squatting.
The Mayflower Compact, 1620 Signed before pilgrims left the ship. Not a constitution, but agreement to form a government and submit to majority rule. Signed by 41 males who had meeting assemblies

First Year at Plymouth Colony. Winter of 1620-1621 44/102 survived. None chose to leave in 1621 when the Mayflower sailed back. Fall of 1621(first thxgiving) the colony survived on fur, fish and lumber.

Puritan Rebels...Roger Williams Young Salem Minister. Argued to break with the Anglican Church. Denied authority of civil gov to regulate religious behavior. 1635 - found guilty of preaching dangerous opinions and was exiled
Rhode Island 1636 Roger Williams fled here. MA Bay wanted to exile him to England so he wouldnt make a competing colony. RL had political freedom and opportunity for all
Anne Hutchinson Threatened Patriarchy. Said this belief came directly from God
