Prac Exam

QuestionAnswer
What is the purpose of an FCE? To determine whether a person is funcitonally capable to RTW and participate in the physical tasks at hand.
What do we need to collect prior to testing? And do before the next test? - Consent - Equipment required - Pre-test data (BP, Pain VAS, percieved exertion 0-10, HR/max HR, age) - need to wait until HR has reached baseline before commencing more tests
What is the Forward lean postural test and what are the parameters? Get consent, Stand at table height at hips, arms reach out at least 500mm to play with item, knees should be soft not locked. Test for 3 mins, HR recorded every 30secs, get RPE before/after. If person needs to stop, ask reason why. Rate level of pain/RPE
What equipment do you need for the forward lean postural tolerance test? HR monitor or watch, stop watch around neck, RPE Borg scale, table/bench, marbles, bolts or somthing to hold
What are you observing for in the Postural tolerance test? Sweating, grimacing, body wt shifting, locking knees, trembling
What would you do if their HR was too high after the test and RPE? Regress the next activity to make it easier
What is the Safe maximal lifting test and instructions? Must know max weight needed to be lifted. Demonstrate lift first, ask person to have a go and correct any flaws. Person must lift box from floor and place at waist or shoulder height 3 x and then add weight, repeat until can't lift/not safe to lift.
What measures do you need to get before and after the submaximal lift is done? Age/HR max, baseline HR, HR every 30s, RPE Borg Scale & pain levels.
When would use cease the submaximal lifting test? - If 85% of HR max is reached - If the person chooses to stop the test - If the load is controlling the worker (too unsafe to continue)
What could you say to someone if they wanted to stop the test? - I know this may be difficult but you are still moving very safely and your HR tells me that your body isn't working too hard to complete this
What are you observing for in the submaximal lifting test? - loss of form, asymmetry - accessory muscle use around neck - excessive use of momentum - effort tremor especially triceps - jerky mvt, breath holding, grimacing
