Senses/Nerves
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Eyelids | Thin skin that protects anterior surface of the eye |
| Conjunctiva | Thin transparent membrane lining eyelids and outer surface of the cornea |
| Lacrimal apparatus | Lacrimal gland, Lacrimal sac, Nasolacrimal duct |
| Lacrimal gland | Produces tears, in outer upper eye |
| Lacrimal sac | Part of the tear drainage system, inner eye |
| Nasolacrimal duct | Recieves tears |
| Extrinsic muscles | six muscles located on the outside of the eye responsible for the eye's movement |
| Sclera | white of eye |
| Cornea | Transparent layer forming front of the eye |
| Choroid | Thin membrane containing melanin to absorb light coming in from sides of the eyes |
| Ciliary body | Controls the thickness of the lens to aid in accommodation or changing the shape of the lens to help with distance and near vision |
| Iris | Colored portion of the eye |
| Pupil | Regulates the amount of light entering the eye |
| Lens | Crystalline epithelial structure located behind the iris and pupil. Helps to focus light waves on the retina |
| Retina | Thin, fragile layer of neurons which form the inner lining of the back wall of eyes. Receives light waves and converts the info to nerve impulses |
| Rods | Assist vision in dim light, shape of objects and black and white vision |
| Cones | Assist vision in bright light and have sensitivity to color. Sees through RBG cones. |
| Structures in Fibrous Tunic | Sclera and Cornea |
| Structures in Vascular Tunic | Iris, Ciliary body, and Choriod |
| Structures in Nervous Tunic | Retina |
| Auricle | Elastic cartilage covered with skin, directs sound waves to the eardrum (tympanic membrane) |
