Words meanings

QuestionAnswer
What is Juxtaposition? Placing two words or two ideas together to make the reader feel different about it. “The kings ring glistened as his carriage passed the homeless in their sleeping bags”
What is Onomatopoeia? The use of words that suggest their meaning when pronounced “the bees buzz,the clock tick-ticks,the snake hisses”
What is a Oxymoron? A device where seemingly opposite words are placed together for effect “seriously funny,” “terrible beauty”
What is Alliteration? The repetition of initial sounds in words within a line or verse of poetry “Peter piper”
What is assonance? Repetition of the same vowel sound in a line of poetry. “She lived in the hills,lake water lapping.”
What is personification? When an inanimate object or abstract image is given human qualities or abilities “the leaves danced in the wind,tension gripped my throat.”
What is a Stanza/verse? Poems are divided into stanzas,a group of lines which form a division of a poem.
What is imagery? A picture like your not writing what it is your referring it so the reader will picture in in their head (you could also just say a ‘picture’ I just fucking overexplained) e.g Walking in the door: the wind howled through the keyhole.
What is a simile Comparing something to what it is not in order to describe it using “like” or “as” E.g”he was as excited as a small child at Christmas”
